International Agricultural Research Institute went to Honghe Prefecture to Carry out Research Activities of Cross-border Industrial Economic Belt Construction

Yunnan is the frontier area of China\'s opening up to South Asia and Southeast Asia. Yunnan is the frontier of China\'s opening up to South and Southeast Asia. The proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative brings unprecedented development opportunities for the construction of cross-border industrial economic belt.   To fully implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping\'s important speech on his visit to Yunnan, and further promote the research on the construction of cross-border industrial economic belt, Liu Zhenhuan, the secretary of International Agricultural Research Institute and other six colleges went to Sugarcane Research Institute, Sericulture and Apiculture Research Institute and Hekou county to carry out investigate and surveyon the construction of cross-border industrial economic belt construction.

During the symposium the scientific and technical personnel of the International Agricultural Research Institute introduced the international exchanges and cooperation since its establishment. Sugarcane Research Institute and Sericulture and Apiculture Research Institute respectively introduced their achievements and experiences in international cooperation and exchange in their fields.at last, , both sides had in-depth exchange and discussion on the achievements and problems in international agricultural exchanges and cooperation and Shared experience. After the symposium, the research group visited the Sugarcane Germplasm Resources Nursery, scientific research and experiment base, Sugarcane product exhibition center and Silkworm Bee Sericulture Science and Technology Demonstration Park, Silk product Research and Development Center, Scientific and Technological Achievements Display Center and other platforms of The Institute In the future, International Agricultural Research Institute will carry out in-depth cooperation with Sugarcane Research Institute and Sericulture and Apiculture Research Institute on international cooperation and exchanges in the sugarcane industry, the sericulture and bee industry, and the construction of cross-border industrial economic belts to draw on each other\'s strengths.

In Hekou County, the research group went to Hekou County Agriculture and Rural Bureau, Hekou Port, Hekou Customs, and Honghe Area of China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone to conduct research and exchanges. The scientific and technical personnel of International Agricultural Research Institute introduced the basic information and functions of the institute to Hekou Customs. Hekou customs officials introduced the basic trade situation of its ports, trade in agricultural products and the impact of coVID-19 on port trade. The research group also visited the Hekou Highway Port, Hekou border trade ports, Mountainside International reilway port joint inspection center, Comprehensive Service Center of Honghe Area of China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone,etc. Through the exchanges and field visits, the scientific and technological personnel of the International Agricultural Research Institute had an in-depth understanding of the trade situation of agricultural products in Hekou and the role of the Honghe Area of the China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone through the communication and site investigation.in the context of the “Belt and Road ”Initiative, the development of cross-border industrial economic belt faces both opportunities and challenges. Seizing opportunities and meeting challenges are the new tasks and goals that Yunnan Province faces in the development of cross-border economic cooperation. Through this research and exchange activity, the scientific and technical personnel of International Agricultural Research Institute have had a deeper understanding on the needs and cooperation situation of Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam in the sugarcane industry, sericulture and bee industry. Furthermore they have learned more about  the situation of agricultural products trade at Hekou Port, the role played by Honghe Area of China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone. In the future, the International Agricultural Research Institute will study deeply the difficulties and problems faced in the development of the cross-border industrial economic belts, and put forward more countermeasures and suggestions for decision-making reference for the building of the South Asia and Southeast Asia radiation center.
