During the “The 3rd Symposium on Exchange and Cooperation to Enhance Innovation for Agricultural Science and Technology in South & Southeast Asia” (August19-23, Zhaotong, 2019),The Academic Workshop of South & Southeast Asia Upland Rice Network (SSAURN) was successfully held during 21-22th, August, 2019.
In the morning of 21th August, Prof. Peng Xu, the secretary of SSAURN from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of Chinese Academy of Science presided the Workshop. Eight delegates of SSAURN presented the Workshop. Three research colleagues from Hunan Hybrid Rice Center of China and the Department of Agriculture of Sri Lanka attended the Workshop.
Each member country presented national report of upland rice research progress and the test results of upland rice lines from YAAS. Ms. W.M.U.K. Rathnayake, assistant Director of the Department of Agriculture of Sri Lanka, introduced the general situation of upland rice production and research progress on upland rice breeding in Sri Lanka. It is the second time that the Department of Agriculture of Sri Lanka sent representatives to attend the Workshop of "South Asia and Southeast Asia Upland Rice Network". Through two years of interactive exchanges and investigation, it was concluded that SSAURN has played a leading role in promoting the exchange of upland rice planting technology among South and Southeast Asian countries and improving the level of regional agricultural development. According to the application of the Department of Agriculture of Sri Lanka, the members of SSAURN agreed to accept the Rice Development Institute of the Department of Agriculture of Sri Lanka as a new member of SSAURN. Up to now, the South Asia and South-East Asia Upland Rice Network includes eight research institutes of Rice in Bangladesh, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal,Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and China.
